Indonesia (II)

The unpredictable eruptions of Mount Merapi forced my mom and I to cancel our Yogyakarta plans and stay all 5 nights of our Indonesia trip in Ubud.  Although our trip was absent of the big “wow” factor of a Borobudur visit, it was nice to spend a few leisurely days listening to gamelan music, eating lots of Balinese crispy duck and fresh fruit, reading local thoughts about Obama’s visit in the excellent Jakarta Post, and lounging in view of beautiful gardens and rice paddies (sometimes, admittedly, from the comfort in our air-conditioned hotel room).
